Work in the Maastricht City Council
M:OED is looking for a Citizen Council Member (burgerraadslid)!
Do you want to work for positive change at the local level?
Do you enjoy working with a wide range of parties and organizations in the city?
Do you believe that political choices should be made based on the most up-to-date knowledge available?
Would you like to be part of a growing movement striving for a more open, fair and democratic Maastricht?
In short, can you ask critical questions, but also come up with creative solutions?
Then this is the place for you!
Who are we looking for?
M:OED is looking for a ‘burgerraadslid’ Culture as a full member of the M:OED team. We have a seat on the Maastricht City Council. It is a position where no day is the same and you will work together in a team consisting of a council member, a group employee, a communication employee, two substantive citizen members, and other committed members. As a group, we work together in the center of Maastricht democracy and as a movement in the city, we create a future vision with courage.
So you are interested in local Maastricht politics and underline the M:OED vision to work with it. As part of the group you will contribute to the views of M:OED and its implementation, so you must have a sense of what is going on in the city! Political experience is certainly not a requirement.
What are you going to do?
You will think about the culture in Maastricht and its policy implementation in the city. Think about cultural free zones, accessibility, event policy, and diversity of culture in the city. We will determine the number of hours you spend on this in consultation with you. It is nice if you are at least available on Monday evening from 19.30 for the group meetings and once a month for the domain meeting economy & culture on Tuesday evening. You will be reimbursed by the municipality for each domain meeting you attend. Within the group, there are also several training opportunities.
The most important tasks are the preparation of group meetings, domain meetings, and keeping an overview of current cultural affairs in the council and in the city. This requires an excellent command of the Dutch language. Because we have a lot of contact with the international community, it is also useful if you speak English well.
We work not only in the town hall, much of the group work is outside on the streets, in the neighborhoods at events, and of course through social media. It is an advantage if you have experience with this.
