M:OED candidate list brings young people into Maastricht politics
By Bestuur on
Maastricht is home to many young people and students. They are building their future here by studying and working. Decisions about housing, education, and employment partly determine whether they can continue to do so in our city. M:OED is presenting a candidate list for the municipal elections on March 18th that will make this group more visible in Maastricht politics.
By actively involving young people in the city council, M:OED aims to leverage their knowledge and experience for Maastricht’s long-term development. The candidates will be involved with municipal policy on a daily basis. They will bring this perspective directly to the council, in an open and honest manner; for the good of Maastricht. According to leading candidates Bram van den Berkmortel and Aurele Boesten:
“A large proportion of our candidates are students. We study here, live here, work here, and are building our future in Maastricht. We experience daily what municipal policy means for affordable housing, education, job opportunities, and well-being, and we want to incorporate those experiences into our decision-making process.
At the same time, our candidate list is broadly composed. This mix ensures that people with different backgrounds and life experiences are sitting together at the table. This leads to better choices that align with daily life in Maastricht. Because what we have in common is that we want to work together with energy and optimism on the future of our city.”
With students and working young people from all over Maastricht, the (EU) region and beyond at the top of the list, the involvement of the new generation in local politics is growing.
