Welcome to Your Maastricht!
Our city deserves fresh ideas from enthusiastic people like you to prepare it for a better future.
Maastricht has been transformed in recent decades by the influx of students, expats, artists and knowledge workers, but city policy doesn’t reflect this.
Students are often portrayed as boozy party animals, the city’s culture is old-fashioned, and the city center is being turned into a theme park or event venue. Help us change this mindset and turn Maastricht into the city it is destined to be!
Do you have ideas on how to improve things?
Let us know, we’d love to hear them. Contact us via the email address or phone number listed below.
Want to help out with our plans for the city?
You can also help us develop some of our plans to make the city more beautiful and interesting, like better student housing, making Maastricht a bike city, ensuring safer streets for everyone, making city life more inclusive and child-friendly, and ensuring a vibrant cultural life that is interesting to a broad public.
Looking to gain hands-on experience in local politics?
M:OED offers lots of ways for you to actively engage in Maastricht politics. Help us organize events to raise awareness for issues we all care about. Bring together people who want to make Maastricht better for all. Meet with stakeholders and help give them a voice. Create and promote content for social media. Help expand our strategies and networks for spreading our message. Make a contribution that fits in with what you are good at.
You can also come to our weekly faction meetings and dive with our council member into the issues of the day. The choice is yours, and the scope is as large as your imagination.
Everyone is welcome
Although they may not know it, many expats can also participate in local council elections. And even if you aren’t allowed to vote, we think it is important that you can give your opinion, and you are very welcome to contribute to the further development of Maastricht.
Many people only live in Maastricht for a short time. We think it is important that these people are also allowed to have a voice about the future of the city. When they leave the city to settle elsewhere, new people will come to live temporarily in Maastricht, and these people will benefit from every improvement we make to the city now.
